My Glastonbury food journey 10 top dishes – for hangovers or healthy eating

Here’s my Glastonbury food journey! From battling the infamous Worthy Farm hangover to seeking out healthy fuel for dancing, the festival offers a surprising range of culinary delights. This list is my personal top 10, a mix of restorative comfort food and guilt-free goodness to keep you going all weekend long. Get ready to drool!

The Hangover Heroes

1. Pieminister

Ah, Pieminister. A Glastonbury classic for a reason. Nothing, and I mean nothing, soaks up the previous night’s… excesses… quite like a rich, meaty pie. I’m talking a proper pie, with a mountain of creamy mash, those bright green minty peas (you know the ones!), and lashings of thick, dark gravy. The perfect pre-Pyramid Stage fuel, wouldn’t you agree? Or, you know, just to get you through the morning. We’ve all been there.

2. West Country Farmhouse Cheddar Cheese Toastie

Simple, effective, and always a winner. Sometimes, you just need something familiar. The gooey, melty cheese, the satisfying crunch of the crusty bread – it’s pure comfort food in its most basic form. But here’s a tip: seek out the stalls that boast proper West Country farmhouse cheddar. Trust me on this one. It makes ALL the difference. It’s a bit like finding a fiver in your pocket – unexpected joy!

3. Bacon Butty from a Proper Fry-Up Van

Let’s face it, does this really need an explanation? Probably not. Crispy, salty bacon piled high on soft, slightly buttered bread. Then, the crucial decision: ketchup or brown sauce? Me? I’m a ketchup kinda guy, but each to their own. Generous dollop, obviously. Instant hangover cure. No question. You’ll be back on your feet in no time!

Healthy and Delicious Options

4. Buddha Bowls

Okay, so Buddha Bowls are a relatively new arrival to the Glastonbury food scene, but a welcome one, right? After days of indulging, it’s good to give your body a bit of a break. Packed with healthy grains, colourful roasted vegetables, wholesome pulses, and drizzled with delicious, often tangy, dressings. The perfect antidote to all the fried food and late-night snacking. Plus, they look amazing for the ‘gram!

5. Fresh Fruit Smoothies

Hydrating and vitamin-packed, these are absolutely essential for staying energized in the Somerset sunshine (or, let’s be honest, the Somerset drizzle!). Seriously, find a stall with a wide variety of fresh fruits so you can create your own customized concoction. I like to throw in some spinach for an extra boost – don’t knock it till you try it! It keeps those pesky festival lurgy bugs away, hopefully.

6. Falafel Wrap with Salad

Looking for something a little lighter and brighter than the usual burgers and chips? Falafel wraps are a fantastic option. They’re packed with flavour, surprisingly filling (thanks to all that fibre!), and a great way to get some much-needed greens into your system. Top tip: go for the ones with the extra hummus. You won’t regret it.

Festival Favourites

7. Paella

The unmistakable aroma of paella cooking in those giant pans over an open fire is pretty much synonymous with Glastonbury at this point. A hearty and colourful dish, brimming with rice, seafood, chicken (sometimes chorizo!), and vegetables. It’s perfect for sharing with friends while you’re waiting for your favourite band to come on. Just watch out for the queues!

8. Manic Organic’s Mac & Cheese

Considered by many seasoned Glastonbury goers to be the best Mac & Cheese at the entire festival. And I’m inclined to agree. It’s rich, it’s creamy, it’s utterly, unapologetically indulgent. If you see the Manic Organic stall, do yourself a favour and grab a bowl. Your taste buds will thank you. Seriously, you can almost feel your arteries hardening with joy.

9. Spicy Noodles

Whether it’s pad thai, dan dan noodles, or some other delicious noodle creation, a steaming bowl of spicy noodles is just the ticket on a chilly Glastonbury evening. Plus, it adds a bit of a kick to your festival experience. Nothing wakes you up quite like a mouthful of chilli! Just be sure to have a drink handy.

10. Churros with Chocolate Sauce

A sweet treat to round off any meal (or just because!). Crispy, sugary churros dipped in warm, gooey chocolate sauce. Need I say more? They’re the perfect festival indulgence, and let’s be honest, you deserve it after all that dancing. It’s like a little piece of Spain magically transported to Somerset. What’s not to love?

So, that’s my Glastonbury food rundown! Hopefully, it’s given you some inspiration for your own culinary adventures at Worthy Farm. From hangover cures to healthy options, there’s a delicious dish for every mood. Don’t forget to try something new, and maybe share your own top picks with me next time! After all, half the fun of Glastonbury is discovering hidden gems. Happy eating!
